USA Lab 35% Food Grade Hydrogen Peroxide

This is the highest concentration of hydrogen peroxide we offer, specifically formulated to be food-grade, clear, colorless, and free from stabilizers or additives. Our peroxide is certified by the Food Chemical Codex (FCC) and has been rigorously tested and verified for quality and purity.

35% Food Grade Hydrogen Peroxide Safety Data Sheet

Our food-grade hydrogen peroxide is 12 times stronger than typical household peroxide. When diluted, it can yield a substantial amount of 3% hydrogen peroxide, suitable for a wide variety of applications:

  • 1 Quart of 35% makes 4.2 gallons of 3%
  • 1 Gallon of 35% makes 11.5 gallons of 3%
  • 5 Gallons of 35% makes 57.8 gallons of 3%
  • 55 Gallons of 35% makes 634 gallons of 3%

Applications

  • Elevating Plant Growth: Diluted hydrogen peroxide promotes healthy root development and increases oxygen availability in the soil.
  • Cleaning Food Prep Environments: Acts as a disinfectant, effectively killing viruses and various bacteria.
  • Bleaching: A mild bleaching agent for cleaning stains.
  • Cleansing Fresh Produce: Used to clean fruits and vegetables.
  • Mold and Mildew Removal: Breaks down mold and mildew efficiently due to its strong oxidative properties.

Dilution Instructions for 35% to 3% Hydrogen Peroxide

Materials Needed:

  • 35% food-grade hydrogen peroxide
  • Deionized distilled water
  • Clean, empty gallon bottle
  • Measuring cup
  • Funnel
  • Safety goggles
  • Rubber gloves
  • Apron or old clothes

Steps:

  1. Wear safety goggles, rubber gloves, and an apron or old clothing.
  2. Choose a well-ventilated space.
  3. Mix 1 part 35% hydrogen peroxide with 11 parts distilled water.
    • For example, mix 1 cup of hydrogen peroxide with 11 cups of distilled water. This results in a slightly less than 3% solution (2.92%).

Understanding Hydrogen Peroxide

Chemical Properties:

  • Formula: H2O2
  • Molecular Weight: ~34.01 g/mol
  • Physical State: Liquid at room temperature
  • Odor: Slightly sharp and distinctive
  • Solubility: Miscible with water in all proportions
  • Density: ~1.01 g/mL for 3% solution
  • Boiling Point: ~150.2°C (302.4°F)
  • Reactivity: Powerful oxidizing agent, decomposes into water and oxygen
  • pH: Slightly acidic
  • Stability: Sensitive to light, heat, and contaminants; store in cool, dark places

Uses of Hydrogen Peroxide

Hydrogen peroxide is used extensively due to its oxidizing properties:

  • Disinfectant and Antiseptic: Cleans wounds and minor injuries.
  • Hair Bleaching and Dyeing: Breaks down natural pigments in hair.
  • Teeth Whitening: Removes stains and discoloration.
  • Cleaning Agent: For surfaces, fabrics, and contact lenses.
  • Water Treatment: Removes contaminants and disinfects water supplies.
  • Rocket Propellant: Used in aerospace for propulsion.
  • Chemical Synthesis: In various chemicals and pharmaceuticals.
  • Environmental Applications: For soil and groundwater remediation.
  • Food Industry: Cleans and disinfects equipment and packaging.
  • Textiles: Bleaches fabrics and removes stains.
  • Paper and Pulp Industry: Improves the quality of paper products.
  • Agriculture: Enhances oxygen availability in soil.
  • Medical and Laboratory Use: Cleans and sterilizes equipment.

Production of Hydrogen Peroxide

Anthraquinone Process:

  1. Hydrogenation: Converts anthraquinone to hydroquinone using hydrogen gas.
  2. Autoxidation: Hydroquinone reacts with oxygen to regenerate anthraquinone and produce hydrogen peroxide.
  3. Extraction: Hydrogen peroxide is extracted from the mixture.

Direct Synthesis Process:

Combines hydrogen and oxygen directly with a catalyst, typically palladium or platinum.

Expiration and Storage

Hydrogen peroxide degrades over time, especially when exposed to light and heat. Store it in a cool, dark place in a tightly sealed container to maximize its shelf life.

Safety as Mouthwash

Hydrogen peroxide can be used as a mouthwash in a diluted form (3% or less). Swish around for 30 seconds and spit out. Rinse thoroughly afterward and do not swallow. Consult a dentist before use.

Hazards and Safe Handling

Hydrogen peroxide can cause irritation, burns, and other hazards if mishandled. Always wear protective equipment, dilute properly, store securely, and dispose of according to local regulations. Follow safety guidelines and consult professionals for specific applications.
